We treat each pet as an individual and will make specific recommendations based on our physical exam and review of your pet's history. Not every pet will need all of the items on the following lists, but we provide this information so you have a general understanding of the costs of care.

    • Housecall Fee

The housecall fee covers the doctor's time and travel. The fee is charged once per visit, and is the same regardless of the number of pets seen at the visit.

Weekday appointment in our core service area $150

Additional fee for weekday appointments scheduled for 5pm or later, and for routine Saturday appointments

      +$25

Additional fee for appointments not part of our routine schedule (such as weekends and holidays)

      +$100
      Out-of-area surcharge, if applicable +$10-$20
    • Routine Care for Cats

Most healthy, indoor cats do well with just an annual exam and two vaccinations:

      Item Price Notes
Annual Exam $110  The exam includes a full review of your pet's medical history and a full, head-to-tail physical exam.
Rabies Vaccination $63 We administer the annual Purevax rabies vaccine.
Feline Distemper (FVRCP) Vaccination $54 We administer the Purevax distemper vaccine. Your cat may be on a one-year or three-year cycle for this vaccine.

Multi-pet Discount - We are happy to examine more than one pet at the visit, and we offer a $20 discount on the annual exam for each of the additional pets seen at the same visit.

Additional Items for Cats - Depending on your cat's lifestyle we may recommend additional tests or treatments, such as testing for exposure to feline AIDS (FIV) and feline leukemia (FeLV), a vaccination for FeLV, testing for intestinal parasites, a deworming treatment, and medication for flea and tick prevention.

    • Routine Care for Dogs

Most healthy dogs do well with an annual exam, vaccinations, and monitoring for intestinal parasites and other diseases:

      Item Price Notes
Annual Exam $110  The exam includes a full review of your pet's medical history and a full, head-to-tail physical exam.
Rabies Vaccination $58 Your dog may be on a one-year or three-year cycle for this vaccine.
Canine Distemper and Parvovirus (DA2PP) Vaccination $54 Your dog may be on a one-year or three-year cycle for this vaccine.
Fecal Evaluation $67 We screen for intestinal parasites, including giardia. You should have a stool sample available at the visit.
Test for heartworm and exposure to tick diseases $60.75 This blood test screens for heartworm disease and for exposure to tick diseases such as Lyme.

We also recommend preventive medications to avoid exposure to fleas, ticks, and heartworm disease:

Flea and Tick Preventive varies We recommend giving Bravecto flea and tick preventive medicine. It is a flavored chew that provides 3 months of protection. We can set up an automatic refill and send a new dose every 3 months.
Heartworm Preventive varies We recommend giving a monthly heartworm preventive medicine like Tri-Heart Plus. The cost varies on the size of your dog and whether you purchase a 6-month or 12-month supply.

Multi-Pet Discount - We are happy to examine more than one pet at the visit, and we offer a $20 discount on the annual exam for each of the additional pets seen at the same visit.

Additional Items for Dogs - Depending on your dog's lifestyle we may recommend additional tests or treatments, such as vaccinations for kennel cough (bordetella), flu, and leptospirosis.

    • Sick Pets
Cats and dogs may experience short-term problems or chronic illness that we can manage through monitoring and treatment. The costs vary depending on each pet's individual needs, so if you would like additional information to estimate your pet's care, please let us know. The starting point for most sick pet visits is our housecall fee (see above) and a diagnostic exam ($120). After the exam the doctor will discuss the findings with you and recommend a plan.
    • Euthanasia

We provide caring, compassionate euthanasia at home, so you and your pet can be in familiar surroundings during a personal and emotional time.

      Euthanasia service
      (including our standard housecall fee)
$563.50 The euthanasia service includes our standard housecall fee, a diagnostic exam, administration of a sedative, and the euthanasia itself. (Additional fees apply to evening and weekend appointments, and for appointments out of our regular service area.)

Many clients choose to have us take their pet's body and arrange for cremation. You may choose either a group cremation with no return of ashes, or a private cremation with the return of ashes. Prices for these services depend on your pet's weight, as follows:

        Group Cremation Private Cremation
Cats, and Dogs up to 40 pounds $204 $290
      Dogs 40 to 70 pounds $240 $352
      Dogs 70 to 100 pounds $270 $408
      Dogs 100-150 pounds $300 $474
      Dogs 150+ pounds $335 $520

In addition, if you would like a special urn for your pet's ashes or another memento, you can view the options at www.finalgift.com/memorial-products.

    • Cancellation Fee

We try to avoid charging a cancellation fee but want you to be aware of our policy. We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee (equal to the housecall fee) for appointments canceled or rescheduled within 48 hours of the appointment. For more information, please read our cancellation policy.

    Appointment Checklist

To prepare for your appointment, and to help us provide the best level of care for your pet, please follow these steps:

    First steps

Check that you are in our service area

View the list of towns in our core and extended service area to be sure we will be able to schedule an appointment.

Contact us to schedule an appointment

Reach out to us by phone (508-653-4300) or email ([email protected]) to schedule your appointment. We will work with you to find a suitable time. We thank you in advance for understanding that the doctor's arrival window will be from about 15 minutes before to about 15 minutes after the target arrival time that we schedule.

    Review our cancellation policy

If you need to cancel your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible, and in all cases at least 48 hours before the visit. Once we have put you on our schedule, we have reserved that spot for you and will not offer it to other clients, so a last-minute cancellation leaves us with an empty spot that we otherwise would have used to help another pet. Cancellations less than 48 hours ahead of the visit are subject to a cancellation fee equal to your housecall fee.

Ask previous veterinarians to send us their medical records

Your pet's previous medical records are very important, even if they are several years old! These records will help us understand your pet's vaccination and weight history, and will include doctors' notes and lab results from past visits. We review this information to put your pet's current health in its proper context and to help us tailor our recommendations to your pet's specific needs.

We need to receive the previous records far enough in advance of your appointment for our veterinarian to review them and incorporate the information into our records. As soon as possible, please ask your previous veterinarian's office to send us their records either by fax (508-653-4333) or email ([email protected]).

Check with your pet's play group or kennel about required vaccinations and tests

If you board your pet at a kennel or if he or she participates in a play group, check with the facility about required vaccinations and tests. We will be happy to forward them documentation of your pet's updated vaccines and tests after our visit.

    Before your appointment

Sequester cats who are shy, nervous, or difficult to handle

Any cats who are shy or nervous, or who might be difficult to handle for the exam, should be in a bathroom before the doctor arrives. Over the years we have found this is the most effective way to keep things manageable and to allow us to examine and work with your cat. Even if you are skeptical, we promise this is the best way that you can help us help your cat!

    Collect a stool sample

For all dogs at their annual check-ups, and for any cats who go outside, you should collect a stool sample ahead of the visit so we can screen for intestinal parasites.

    Gather medications

Gather any medications, preventives, and supplements your pet uses so the doctor can review them at the appointment. You also should prepare to talk with the doctor about the foods your pet eats. Once we have examined your pet, we can supply most medications your pet will need, either at the appointment or by mail. For routine medications we can set up an autorefill and send more each month.

    After your appointment

    Test results

Many test results will be available the next day, so you can expect to hear from us either by phone or email soon with results.

    Records available online

Your pet's vaccination records and future due dates will be accessible online through PetDesk, typically within a day of the appointment. If you would like online access to your pet's complete record, please let us know.
